Porcus I - 8/20 Limited Edition (Varied) Sculpture (Edition 8 of 20) - Silicone, wood and glass

$500.00

Porcus 1 is the first in a series of my trophy head sculptures. The wood, wall mountable plaque measures 5”x7” and the silicone head protrudes 4” out from the surface. Numbered and signed on the back, this piece is truly unique. The head is made of cast silicone and has hand-made, glass eyes in blue. The head has a translucence to the skin tone that borders on the unsettling. This edition is a varied edition meaning all there are variations in how the skin and vein placement is represented. In some ways, each is unique.

The trophy head as a possession, as a sign of some kind of victory over nature or as some kind of symbol of pride is so disturbing to me. The pig is such a misunderstood creature in that they have a consciousness that is considerable. (this is not to create a hierarchy of importance of course) On some level, I want these reduced-size trophy heads to simply offer the consideration for that sentience. The aesthetics and language around taxidermy and hunting culture and the brutality it represents felt like the way to go.

Buy Porcus!

Please be aware that this is a varied edition. The images shown on the listing are all actual versions of the sculpture but there are too many versions to list and all vary slightly in vein placement, markings and tonality with subtle shifts in all of these areas. The heads themselves are all cast from the same mold and are identical however. The photos are generally a very good estimation of what you are getting. I cannot honor specific requests for edition numbers or specific sculptures. When an order is placed, you will receive the next available edition in the series until they are all gone. Provenance will be provided in the package detailing that the purchase was directly made from my studio.

There are 20 Porcus I sculptures in the numbered edition and 2 artist proofs. The AP’s I am keeping in my studio and are not for sale. Therefore, only the 20 numbered editions will be released.

The silicone heads should be minimally handled and maintained in a normal, day to day art handling fashion. These works are durable and can be gently wiped clean with a wet cloth.
